National Holiday

I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving!
We had our version here of giving thanks and celebrating autumn by eating mooncakes and having a week off of work to enjoy a 'national holiday' for the first week of October. Personally, I'd prefer a turkey dinner to eating mooncake, but I won't complain about getting a week to relax!. During the National Holiday I went to Tian'men (meaning the gate to heaven) square to pay tribute to Mao and China (as is a usual day-to-day affair in China). I also saw the tallest Chinese person that I've ever encountered in my life walking around the square. I tried to be as subtle and suave as possible in my effort to pull out my camera and take a quick snapshot of him - but alas, he turned around right after I took it and shook his head. Hey, who knows...he could be the next Yao Ming!

I also had a nice tour of a winery in a village about 2 hours away from Beijing - unfortunately I wasn't feeling so well that day so the smell of fermenting grapes was enough to almost knock me out!

I also went walking around the summer palace which was really beautiful! I would recommend that if anyone visits Beijing - they should at least go there once! The garden grounds are quite serene with traditional Chinese music being piped through hidden speakers in the background. It's a beautiful place for a first date!

So that's today's update...for more pics, you know where to go...Mare http://www.dotphoto.com/CPListAlbums.asp *userid: Francheska *password: marebear
